Purpose
Parent Teacher Partnership of Academy 1 Middle School builds fellowship
between parents, teachers, staff, and students at Academy 1 Middle School in
Jersey City, NJ.
Membership Requirements
All parents and guardians of students currently attending Academy 1 Middle
School are members of the Parent Teacher Partnership. No dues are required to
join.

4. Posts Title 1 Parent Meeting Notices to email and social media
5. Sends out emails to Academy 1 parents from the PTP account
6. Updates PTP social media
7. Changes over access to PTP email, Evite account, social media accounts, and
other accounts when new secretary is appointed.
Treasurer
1. Fundraising
2. Putting together great activities
3. Become the contact person for the PTP’s bank account
4. Deposits money from fundraisers
5. Writes/mails checks to Scholastic and other vendors
6. Files paperwork every year with the State of NJ
a. Tax return
b. Annual Report
c. Financial Report
7. Files IRS Form 990
8. Transfers over bank account/passwords to new treasurer when leaving the
position
9. Changes our New Jersey nonprofit’s registered agent by simply filling out a
Change of Agent form and submitting the $25 filing fee online with the New
Jersey Department of the Treasury website.
Meetings and Voting
The executive board of the PTP meets on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7pm
or as decided by PTP leadership. All members are allowed to vote.
Nominations and Elections
The Nominating Committee is comprised of current PTP leadership. Suggestions
for nominees are accepted from parents or guardians of current Academy 1
Middle School students, current Academy 1 PTP officers. Nominees are allowed to
self-nominate.
The Nominating Committee meets during May and June of the current school year
and presents a list of nominees for PTP leadership for the following year .
Voting is a a simple voice vote for uncontested slates or a majority vote for
contested positions.
Fiscal Year
The fiscal year for Parent Teacher Partnership of Academy 1 Middle School A NJ
Nonprofit Corporation is July 1st – June 30th.
Finances
• No part of net earnings of the organization shall inure to the benefit of any
private shareholder orindividual;
• No substantial part of the activities of the organization is carrying on (political)
propaganda, or otherwise attempting to influence legislation. Additionally, the
organization does not participate or intervene in (including the publishing or
distributing of statements) any political campaign on behalf of any candidate for
public office;
• Upon dissolution of the corporation and after paying or making provision for the
payment of all the liabilities of the corporation, the board of trustees shall dispose
of the remaining assets of the corporation exclusively for one or more exempt
purposes, within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of
1954 (or the corresponding provision of any future (REV: 7/2023) federal tax
code), or shall distribute the same to the federal government, or to a state or local
government for a public purpose. Any such assets not so disposed of shall be
disposed of by order of the Superior Court of the State of New Jersey in the
judicial district where the principal office of the corporation is then located,
exclusively for such purpose or to such organizations organized
and operated exclusively for such purposes as said court shall determine.

At the end of the fiscal year, any remaining funds are rolled over for next year’s
activities.
Meeting Style
Parent Teacher Partnership of Academy 1 Middle School meeting style is informal.
Procedure for Amending Bylaws
Parent Teacher Partnership of Academy 1 Middle School Bylaws can be amended
at any meeting with a majority vote to ratify amendments.
Conflict of Interest Policy
Parent Teacher Partnership of Academy 1 Middle School members who have
direct or indirect interests in any business transaction, financial interest, or
business dealing with their school must refrain from participating in the matter .
